# Creams and injections are different questions

Cream and shot notes · September 30, 2026

The first useful question is simple: are we talking about something put on the skin, or something injected? Keep that answer beside every claim.
What to compare
On the skin
By injection
What it is
GHK-Cu is used in skin creams sold as cosmetics, for appearance.
A result from putting it on skin does not describe an injection.
What was studied
Human studies are few, small and mainly about skin creams.
A search of ClinicalTrials.gov, a public list of studies, on September 30, 2026 found no study testing GHK-Cu shots in people.
What that leaves open
These small studies do not answer every question about skin products.
A result from a skin product cannot establish what an injection does in a person.

A study of a cream tells us about putting it on skin. It cannot tell us what a shot would do.

The search covers one study list on that date. It does not rule out research elsewhere.

## The ingredient and the lab findings

GHK names a chain of three protein building blocks: glycine, histidine and lysine.

Cu means copper; GHK-Cu is that chain bound to copper.

The skin-care name copper tripeptide-1 refers to GHK-Cu.

There is no need to memorise the long names. Ask for the ingredient name and whether it goes on skin or is given as a shot, in writing.

### A lab finding is a reason to ask more

In lab dishes, GHK-Cu prompted skin cells to make more collagen, the protein that helps give skin strength.

Those cell tests do not show how a cream or an injection works in a person.

The cell tests raise a question: could GHK-Cu help skin in people? They do not tell us how much a cream would help or what a shot would do.

## When a skin product counts as a drug

The Food and Drug Administration oversees drugs in the US; its initials are FDA.

As of September 30, 2026, appearance-only cosmetics need no FDA approval, except for the ingredients that add colour.

Drug rules cover a product meant to change how the body works or treat disease, including a product put on skin.

As of September 30, 2026, the FDA says a claim to make skin produce more collagen brings a product under drug or medical-device rules.

These rules explain why the claims on a skin product matter. This page does not decide whether a particular cream meets them.
